Low-cost phones for emerging markets to get Twitter as a built-in feature

ibmsocialbiz:

Emerging markets will account for 60% of the mobile market by 2013 — but few of the phones will be smart phones, MobileTek is partnering with mobile manufacturers to integrate Twitter into “feature” phones using minimal memory and hardware requirements. People with these enhanced “feature” phones will be able to experience a rich native application experience of Twitter consistent with smartphone applications like Twitter for iPhone or Twitter for Android. Feels like Twitter is replacing text messages… I do wonder if that’s feasible from a mobile network perspective; now people will need a mobile data connection beside the plain mobile telephony network.
